| Synopsis: Following the bombing of Pearl
Harbor, a Japanese submarine off the east coast of northern
California submerges, stranding MATSUO, a young Japanese sailor.
Four, ten year old boys, DUKE (Morgan), PEE WEE (Osment), WILLY
(Yuki Tokuhiro) and TYLER (Richard Taylor Olson) discover MATSUO and
take him prisoner, hoping to become local heroes. Meanwhile, as
Japanese paranoia grows, John (Harmon) and Barbara (Dawber),
confront the internment camp relocation of their neighbors, ABE
TANAKA (Morita), WILLY and his mother. After MATSUO rescues DUKE
from drowning, the boys do not see him as the enemy and decide to
help him escape. Complex emotions arise in an action-filled and
poignant journey of peril and self discovery. |
