Do I have to put in a full URL, or is www.mycompany.com ok?
It is always best to use a full URL (without the http://), such as www.mycompany.com/home.htm. Some directories look for the full URL.  AddWeb automatically inserts the HTTP://.

Web Site Content:
AddWeb can help you in many ways, but your quest for high placement must start with a good website.  It is important to have a lot of text describing what you do.  Use your keywords in the content, but don't repeat them over and over.  Many search engines rate sites based on 'keyword density'.  This is usually a formula that looks at META Keywords, words in your TITLE, words in paragraph text, words in links to other pages, and even words in the 'ALT' text on your images.  They will even look at different forms of your keywords. For example, if an important keyword for you is 'FISH', the word 'FISHING' in the body of your document will raise the confidence in the word 'FISH' on some engines.

Don't Use Frames:
Most search engine simply cannot index a frames page.  They get to your site and can't go anywhere.  Consider frames like a big 'GO AWAY' sign.

Don't Try to Fool SE's:
This is probably the biggest trap people fall into.  People come up with ways to 'fool' search engines, and they work for a little while... sometimes.  But then the search engines catch on and write routines that penalize sites that use this practice.   Examples of this include, but are not limited to: repeating keywords over and over; using invisible text (white text on white background); using very small text to jam the keywords in a small area;.

Q: How often should I resubmit my site?
A: You should be submitting your site approximately once a month to the major engines, and possibly more often to the directories and web link pages.

Q: Why are submissions failing?
A: Submissions fail for a number of reasons, but the main causes of failed submissions are heavy Internet traffic and how busy the engines server is at the time you are submitting your pages. Another cause of failed submissions is the fact that search engines tend to switch how they accept information on a regular basis. This is why we offer and automated updates to the program.
Q: How long does it take before I can see the results of my search engine submissions?
A: The different engines take a variable amount of time to update. Infoseek normally posts changes immediately, but others may take anywhere from one day to several weeks, depending on how busy they are, how backed up their submission queues are, and other factors.
Q: How does an automatic submission program like the ones offered on this site compare to an online submission service?
A: SE submission software offers you more control at a better price than online submissions services. For example, all SE submission software offered here lets you describe the contents of your site using the keywords important to you and your business. As your business grows and changes, you can use the software to easily change your online presence as well. You can change your site descriptions and keywords, and resubmit them as often as you like, ensuring your Web content stays current within search engine results. With an online submission service, you have to go through a third party to update your site's description, which may take a while to incorporate any new changes.

Traffic Builder is also more cost-effective than a subscription to an online submission service. For a onetime price of the software, Traffic Builder is yours forever, while online submission services charge monthly, quarterly, or annual fees for the length of your service contract, which means you are constantly incurring costs to submit your site and keep it current.
